ITINERARY

Day 1 - transfer to Imlil

We'll collect you from Marrakesh Airport and whisk you off to the Berber village of Imlil at 1,740m where we'll spend the night in either Imlil Lodge or Kasbah Imlil.

If you arrive earlier in the day, you can go and take a look around the fascinating city. We run two transfers from the airport, one at 11am and the other at 3pm. These are included in the price. Or we can do a custom up at anytime for a £10 surcharge.

You'll be able to take in your first glimpses of the spectacular High Atlas Mountains over dinner.

Day 2 - trek to Refuge de Toubkal

Our trek begins!

Heading along the Mizane Valley, we'll pass the village of Aroumd with its backdrop of mountains, before climbing steadily to the shrine of Sidi Charamouch, a haven for pilgrims. You have to try a fresh orange juice from one of the stalls!

From here on the trail climbs gradually, zig zagging its way up to the snow-line and the refuge at 3,206m and the basecamp for Toubkal. We'll set up camp for the night ready for our ascent tomorrow.

Hiking Toubkal

Day 3 - Jebel Toubkal Summit

This is the biggie!

We'll get an early start for our ascent of Jebel Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa! Our route takes us up the South Cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. Although the walking is relatively straightforward, the scree and the altitude can make it feel quite tough going, but we promise those views from the top will be worth it!

Once we reach the 4,167m summit marked by its iconic iron pillar we'll be be blown away by the view. We'll be able to see right across the Marrakesh Plain to the High Atlas mountains of the north and, if we're lucky, as far as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara Desert.

After a few summit selfies and taking in that gorgeous scenery, we'll retrace our steps back down the mountain, and down to Imlil, passing back through Sidi Charamouch.

Back at Imlil we transfer to Marrakesh, where we stay the night in a basic but comfortable riad.

Day 4 - transfer to the airport and return home

We say a sad farewell to Morocco and our new adventure buddies as we transfer to the airport for our flights home, after an incredible weekend adventure.

REVIEWS

What adventures are saying...

Couldn't have been looked after better from the pick up at the hotel to being dropped back again. Our guide Hassan was excellent and it was clear to see his passion for the job and the area he lives in. He taught us a lot about the area and the mountain range. Food and accommodation was great and the whole experience was excellent. Well worth doing.

Paddy - Toubkal

Great team, really professional, top class organisation. Everything went like clockwork. Our guide Hassan was outstanding, he really knew the mountains and could perfectly judge our ability. The mountains themselves are stunning snowcapped giants. The views from the summits are breathtaking. I recommend this to anyone who loves mountains

Andrew - Toubkal

Very challenging and picturesque trek. It was easy to arrange, and our guide Ibrahim was very experienced, knowledgable and gave us lots of help! It is very cold at the top at this time of year and the weather changeable so recommend packing well, but they gave us spare kit for the bits we didn’t have.

George W- Toubkal

We loved it! Everything was good and we really enjoyed our time together with the guide. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to reach Toubkal summit. Guide was very supportive and helpful :) also our cook was very nice and food was tasty.

Linda - Toubkal

We were a group of four and Chediri was our guide to the mt. Toubkal summit. He knows these mountains like his backyard and was a truly wonderful guide! On the early morning ascent he pushed us and we made it in just three hours - in time to enjoy the sunrise. Good food and support from his colleague as well:)

Jan - Toubkal

The guides were excellent and everything was first class. Can't recommend enough! The guides were super professional and safe and all good provided was excellent!

Daniel - Toubkal

I would highly recommend this company in the future. They provide an excellent service all round

Faber - Toubkal

Extremely qualified guidance!! Professional and friendly!!! They offered a unique experience!! Felt sure by their guidance and professionalism.

George - Toubkal

Absolutely amazing and challenging experience. Would give the guides a 10/10 for their effort in making it a great adventure and also making the challenge seem easier than it is. Would 100% recommend!

Aaron - Toubkal

This company is the best value for money out there! For the competitive price, food, accommodation, a donkey, and the guide are included! We contacted them at 5pm for a tour for the next morning and they met with us last minute, which we were so grateful for. Our guide, Abraham, was very nice too and always made sure we were happy! All of us got to the summit too woohoo! Definitely recommend this company.

FAQ

What do I need to bring?

We'll send you a full kit list once you book but as a quick summary:

For trekking in the High Atlas mountains, you'll need to pack as you would for walking in any mountain area; days can be sunny and warm but the weather in the mountains can change rapidly. Expect the possibility of rain and cold winds and even snow, especially in the Autumn and late Spring.

Pack waterproofs and warm layers. For late Spring and Autumn departures a hat and gloves would be useful.

You'll be able to hire equipment such as sleeping bag, walking poles, boots, head torch and clothing from our guide.

Morocco is a Muslim country so bring something to cover arms and legs when walking through villages - trousers that zip off into shorts are ideal.

Please carry out what you carry in - leave no trace.

How fit do I need to be?

You'll need a decent level of fitness to get the most out of this trek. If you're a regular hillwalker you should be fine, although it's a good idea to prepare yourself beforehand.

The ascent day is the longest with around 9-10 hours walking.

Will the altitude be a problem?

While some people are more badly affected than others by altitude, the Atlas Mountains aren't high enough to cause any real problems and our guides have never known any trekkers to suffer with altitude sickness.

Naturally all of our guides have been trained to spot any symptoms of altitude sickness and how to deal with it.

What equipment is provided?

We provide all cooking utensils, a kitchen tent, dining tent, table and stools for meals, lanterns, and a toilet tent.

Hiking equipment can be hired from your guide - you can either let us know what you need beforehand or arrange it with your guide..

I'm a vegetarian, will the food be suitable?

Absolutely, we can cater for a vegetarian diet.

Do I need to tip?

Our team on the ground really appreciate any tips after your trip is over but it is not mandatory. There's no hard and fast rule - some trekkers give 10% of the tour price but if depends on your budget and is at your discretion

What's the currency in Morocco?

The currency of Morocco is the Dirham. Moroccan Dirhams aren't available outside the country so you'll need to get these from an ATM or currency exchange once in Morocco. There are exchanges at the airport.
