Discover if this adventure is right for you

Remoteness vs Amenities

Beaten trackWild & remote
Expect basic teahouses and zero roads – rewards are solitude and raw Himalayan vibes.

Trail Traffic

CrowdedQuiet
Manaslu’s restricted-area permits keep numbers low; you’ll often have the path to yourself.

Fitness Needed

Weekend strollerMountain goat
Long days, high pass and rough terrain require solid cardio and leg strength.

Altitude Exposure

Low hillsHigh mountains
Sleeping above 3,500 m for a week and topping out at 5,160 m – acclimatisation is king.
How to Prepare
Build cardio with 3–4 weekly sessions (running, cycling, hill reps) and add pack-loaded hikes at weekends. Strengthen legs & core: lunges, squats, step-ups. Break in waterproof boots before arrival. Two weeks out taper mileage but stay active daily. Pack a –10 °C sleeping bag, down jacket, shell layers, warm gloves and buff; heavy kit can be rented in Kathmandu. Upload passport scan, buy insurance covering 5,500 m + heli-evac, and tell the bank you’re Nepal-bound.

Altitude Sickness Concerns

Altitude and back-to-basics lodging put many would-be trekkers off, but with smart pacing and the right kit it’s totally doable. The itinerary steps gradually from 869 m to 3,500 m before crossing the pass, giving your body time to adapt, and guides carry oximeters and Diamox for backup.

Pro-tip
Stuff tomorrow’s socks and water bottle inside your sleeping bag so they’re warm at dawn.
