Is the Mera Peak Challenge Right For You?

Discover if this adventure is right for you

Cardio vs. Couch Time

Weekend strollerEndurance junkie
Plan to hike 6-8 hours most days and power through a 12-15-hour summit push. Regular hill sessions with a loaded pack will pay off big-time.

Creature Comforts

Hotel hot-tubberHappy dirtbag
Kathmandu beds are plush, but on the hill it’s plywood beds, thin mattresses and a frozen loo at 5,800 m. If that sounds like character-building fun – you’ll thrive.

Altitude Experience

Sea-level rookieHigh-alt addict
Previous treks to 4,000 m (EBC, Kilimanjaro) help, but our slow-burn acclim plan means first-timers at 6k can still smash the summit.

Technical Know-How

Total noviceIce-tool ninja
You’ll wear crampons and clip into a fixed rope, but steep ice climbing isn’t on the menu. We teach the essentials in Khare.
How to Prepare
Start 4-6 months out. Build a base of running, cycling or rowing 3 x week, add weekend hill hikes with a 10-15 kg pack. Progress to back-to-back long days. Throw in stair sessions, weighted squats and core work. Practise wearing boots and breaking-in crampons at a local indoor ice wall if you can. Finally, sort admin: high-altitude travel insurance, doctor sign-off if any medical issues, and a blister-proof pair of double boots.

Altitude & Weather – the Big What-Ifs

Even ‘trekking peaks’ above 6,000 m demand respect.

Our 19-day schedule builds in two rest days and a spare summit window, giving your body – and the weather gods – time to play ball.

Guides run pulse-ox checks, carry sat-phones and react fast if altitude misbehaves.

Bottom line: safety trumps summits – but this plan stacks the odds heavily in your favour.

Safety First
Pulse-ox checks, 1:2 guiding ratio and the option to add a PAC bag or bottled O₂ mean genuine backup if altitude throws a wobbly.

Mera Peak Summit - 19 Days

Tej and Rana, my guide and porter, did a fantastic job ensuring my needs were met as a traveler. The company also created a streamlined logistics experience getting me from Kathmandu Airport to the Himalayas. The hike, a 19 day trek to summit Mera Peak, had enough rest and acclimitization days built in so that I barely needed altitude medication, and I even summited Mera two days early! Summiting Mera was great, but so was experiencing the incredible views and people in the Himalayas!
